The last record of her is a baptismal record for a daughter named Harriot in 1791 in London. James married an Eleanor Brewer in July of 1796 in Annapolis. There has been some confusion over her identity, but her age (given very consistently on census and other documents) and the probate records of her mother's estate indicate that she was the daughter of Joseph Brewer and Rachel Wootton and a niece of Charles Wilson Peale and his first wife Rachel Brewer. James and Eleanor ran inns and boarding houses in Annapolis, Baltimore and Philadelphia until she died 1826. He died two years later in Gettysburg at the home of one of his sons.
