  • Birth*: Thomas Packham was born circa 1720 at Sussex, England.
  • Anecdote*: This Thomas Packham may be the Thomas Peckham baptised 10 Oct 1711 at Hurstpierpoint, son of Thomas & Jane. However, I have that person marrying Margaret Wood in 1743 at the moment simply because they married and lived at Hurstpierpoint. However, the will of Thomas Gibbs (proved 1765) mentions that the Thomas bap. 1711 (brother of Thomas Gibbs wife) has six children which is a good fit with this family and I cannot find six children in the other family. However, baptisms are often missing in the parish registers (often to be found in wills), often due to religious nonconformity, so I am reluctant to discount them, as the family connection to Hurstpierpoint was strong.
  • Name Variation: Thomas Packham was also known as Thomas Peckham.
  • Marriage*: Thomas Packham married Mary Relfe on 20 December 1743 at St Anne, Lewes, Sussex, England, Thomas PECKHAM of Keymer, Mary of the same parish.1

  • Baptism*: Thomas Packham was baptized on 26 February 1745/46 at St Cosmos & St Damian, Keymer, Sussex, EnglandB.1
  • He was the son of Thomas Packham and Mary Relfe.
  • Marriage*: Thomas Packham married Mary Falkener on 10 April 1766 at Cuckfield, Sussex, EnglandB, Thomas a bachelor of Hurstpierpoint; Mary of this parish.2
  • Anecdote: It needs to be noted that there is a marriage of a Thomas Packham (a blacksmith according to his will proved 1808) and Elizabeth Clarke on 27 Jul 1763 which may account for this Thomas (the one baptised 1746 at Keymer). While this creates a doubt, there are many things about the wider family (including wills) which suggest that this Thomas Packham could have married Mary Falkener as well. It has been left to aid further investigation.
