Bucksted in the County of Sussex yeoman being sicke and weake in body butt of good and
perfect remembrance (praysed bee Allmightie God) therefore doe this present Seaven
and Twentieth day of July in the yeare of our lord god One Thousand sixe Hundred thirtie
Seaven and in the Thirteenth yeare of the raigne of our Soveraigne Lord Charles by the

make and Ordayne this my present Testament and last Will in manner and forme
following ffirst and principally I comend my soule into the hands of Allmightie God my
Creator hopeing assuredly by and through the merits and passion of my Blessed Lord and
Saviour Jesus Christ to have free pardon and remission of all my sinnes and to be made
partaker of everlasting life. And I comitt my body to the Earth to be decently buryed
in Christian Buriall Item I give and bequeath unto the poore people of the parish of

Saint Michaell the Archangell, the nativitie of our lord and Saviour Jesus

John Baptist by even and equall portions to be paide by my said Executor And
the first payment thereof to begin and be made uppon the ffirst ffeast day of the
said ffeasts wich shall next happen after my decease (yf shee the said Alice shall
lawfully demannde itt, Item I doe further give and bequeath unto the Childe that
my said daughter Alice now goeth withall (yf shee be with childe) whether itt be

of my Coppiehold messuage or Tenement and lands thereunto belonging lying att
Eastons Greene in the parish of Framfeild which I purchased of William PAYE and
therewithall shall maynetayne and bring upp the said Allexander untill he accomplish
his said age of One and Twenty yeares uppon Condicon That my sonne Gregorie shall
not fell or cutt downe any tymber or wood standing or growing uppon the said land during
the tyme that he is Gardian, Except it be for necessarie reparations of the said messuage
or Tenement and buildings thereunto belonging. And as for my Coppiehold lands tenem ts
and hereditam ts lying in Bucksted aforesaid I have them to discende and come unto my
said eldest sonne Gregorie as my heire According as by the Custome of the Manno r of
fframfeild whereof they are houlden, as they ought to descende The residue of all my
moveable goods debts and Chattells I give and bequeath unto my said sonne Gregory
whome my make my full and whole Executor of this my present Testament and

9 Dec 1679 At this court comes John Ashdown, the lord grants to him his heirs by copy of court roll the messuage, 1 barn, 1 hay lodge, 1 garden, 1 orchard & 4 pieces of customary land with appurtenances called ffodderneghouse field, Le Croft, Le fouer acres, Le Seddgefield containing by estimation 12 acres also another orchard & 2 pieces of customary land called Le hopp garden field als the Mead & Le Pond Meade containing by estimation 5 1/2 acres situate in Rotherfield by rent...., heriot, relief & other services formerly surrendered by Richard Elliott & Agnes his wife to use of the said John Ashdowne & his heirs to have & to hold to the same John Ashdowne his heirs by copy of court roll at the lords will, etc. And he gives for fine for ...... £16 etc.6,7 - Anecdote: At the manorial court held 4 Apr 1689 some of the properties are transferred to John Elliott, yeoman.8
