  • Birth*: William Brown was born circa 1824 at England.
  • He was the son of William Brown and Hannah Hone.
  • Anecdote*: Although no sign of William Brown has been found yet, there is a birth of an Alfred Hone Brown at Sandhurst, Sandridge, Victoria in 1883 to parents William Hone Brown and Sarah Stokes. Could this William Hone Brown be a son of William Brown?
Also, William Hone Brown married Maud Sarah Cecil Stokes in Victoria in 1876.
On 10 Nov 1870 William Hone Brown became the owner of some land in Sandhurst Parish, Eaglehawk (near Bendigo) and in 1871 and 1872 built a house. William was a miner and a broker, and sold the property in 1876 to James Hanson, who established a hotel on the premises, the Magazine Hotel. It survives today at 12 Church Street, Eaglehawk.1,2
  • Anecdote: Another instance of a William Hone Brown: BUTTER TESTER'S DEATH, KERANG. - The death has occurred of Mr. William Hone Brown, 58. He was a native of Kerang, and a life-long resident. For 35 years he had been employed by the Kerang Butter Factory as tester and grader, and retired only recently because of ill-health. He is survived by a widow.3
