- Anecdote*: He was known as "Uncle Ocky". Ocky’s father had been a master miller and baker in the village of Henfield in Sussex and had worked the windmill there (which blew down in 1908 or round about then – you can see a picture of it on the web). The family had moved away from Henfield by then to Brighton where Clement and Maria (Ocky’s parents) and some of the family worked in their baker’s shop. It did not do well and Clement was bankrupt by 1894. In the 1911 census Clement and two of his daughters are living in Brighton and he is a Singer sewing machine seller.3
